The Diagram Tab: Where Your Chord Chart Becomes a Freakin' Art Project

The diagram tab lets y'all configure how diagrams appear on your chord chart using the following settings (that you'll probably ignore anyway).

Instrument

Pick an instrument to use for playin' this song to figure out what diagrams to draw. Options include: Guitar (Default), Piano, 5 String bass, 4 String bass, Ukulele, Baritone ukulele, Mandolin & Banjo. (Basically, we got 'em all. You're welcome.)

Position

This determines where the diagrams show up in your chord chart. It's like furniture arrangement, but nerdier.

  • None does not draw the diagrams. Default. (Plot twist: nothin' happens.)
  • Below draws diagrams at the bottom of the song on the last page. (Classic move.)
  • Above draws diagrams between the title & metadata & the first section. (Fancy.)
  • Within draws diagrams within the lyrics replacin' the space where letter/number chords would normally go. The chord formattin' is also applied to the diagram in this case. (Inception, but make it musical.)
  • Left draws diagrams vertically on the left edge of the chord chart when the R2 renderer is enabled. (Only if you're fancy enough.)
  • Right draws diagrams vertically on the right edge of the chord chart when the R2 renderer is enabled. (Mirror universe, activate!)

Size

The size of the diagrams. Expressed by how many diagrams squeeze across your virtual page. Ranges between 4 & 10 diagrams across with the default bein' 6. (We picked 6. You're welcome again.)

Font Size

This lets you tweak the relative font size of the chord text inside the diagram. Based on the size of the font relative to the document when the chord diagram is drawn 6 across. (Math. Ugh.)

Sorting

This determines the order diagrams show up. Unavailable when diagrams are off or the position is set to Within. (Sorry, not sorry.)

  • Chronologically draws diagrams in the order the chords first appear in the song. Default. (Timeline mode.)
  • Alphabetically draws diagrams in alphabetical order by chord name. (A–Z, baby.)
  • Popularity draws the chords used most often in the song first. (The hits, basically.)
  • Difficulty draws diagrams in order of how hard the chords are to play, with the simplest first. (Participation trophy energy.)

Handedness

This determines which hand the musician is usin' to play the diagram. Default is right handedness, but choosin' Left will flip the diagram to make sense on left-handed instruments. (Southpaws unite!)

Options

You can set other options to change how the diagrams get drawn. (Customization station, y'all.)

  • Bars is enabled by default & will consolidate multiple fingerings on the first common fret as a "bar" that uses one finger to depress multiple strings. (Lazy genius mode.)
  • Frets is enabled by default & will display the fret numbers on the left side of the diagram. (So you know where you are.)
  • Fingers is enabled by default & will display the finger to use for playin' the chord on the bottom of the diagram. This can be toggled with Notes. (Spoiler: it's your fingers.)
  • Notes will display the note that is bein' played at the bottom of the diagram if enabled. This is mutually exclusive with Fingers. (Pick a lane, homie.)
