The Thingamajig That Makes It Go

This section gives you the bleepin' nitty-gritty on how OnSong renders your stuff. Buckle up, buttercup.

Render Ahead/Behind

When you're sweepin' through songs in a set, OnSong will render the songs right before & after the one you're starin' at. Smooth swipes? Heck yeah. Memory goin' bonkers? Also yeah. Wanna dial this in 'cause your iPad's sweatin'? Here's your dials:

  • Automatic lets OnSong be the boss & figure out what won't explode. Usually it's chill unless your file formats are bein' jerks. Default.
  • Off means only the current song gets drawn. Your swipes land on blank pages like you're a ghost, but hey—your performance goes poof. Use this if you're workin' with external files that hate OnSong's guts.
  • On renders song pages before & after & never stops bein' hungry. Ever.

Renderer Version

Pick which bleepin' rendering engine does the heavy liftin' for your text charts. This becomes the default for any song that doesn't have a chip on its shoulder about it. Options:

  • Automatic figures out which renderer won't have a meltdown based on what's in your song.
  • Default is literally the standard version of OnSong you're runnin'. Thrilling, we know.
  • Original uses the old-school renderer that's like a flip phone—fewer tricks up its sleeve.
  • New is the shiny new unified engine with fancy pants like columns & inline formatting. Ooh la la.

Show Scroll Indicators

The OnSong® app's got scrollable panes for days—one horizontal (so you can peek at songs in your set), one for the actual song itself. By default those scroll bars on the right are invisible 'cause we thought that looked cool. Flip this on if you actually wanna see 'em.

Transpose PDF Files

OnSong® can spot chords hidin' in text-based PDFs & transpose 'em like a boss. Hate it? Kill it with this switch.

View Files as PDF

OnSong® auto-converts your weird imported file types to PDF so everything plays nice & doesn't explode based on whatever OS you're runnin'. It's on by default & lets you also peep those files in Low Light Mode & inside OnSong Console in a browser. Turn it off if you're feelin' rebellious & wanna see those files "as-is" usin' whatever janky web renderer your OS is packin'.
