Pick Your Own Bop (Yeah, You Can Do That)

To link a custom audio track to your chord chart, you gotta first decide which library to yeet from for playback. Yeah, these methods are like, slightly different, but they all let you link a track just by tappin' on it like a caveman. Once you pick a track, boom—Change Song dialog shows up to ask if the track's duration & tempo should bulldoze your chord chart. OnSong hooks you up with these libraries (& honestly, that's... a lot).

Audio Media Library

Pick this if you wanna hoard audio tracks inside OnSong like a digital packrat. The audio media library lives in your OnSong library. So you can import & manage tracks without Apple Music, but lol—your library gonna get THICC real fast.

Visual Media Library

Choose this if you're into videos, fam. Link videos to be backing tracks. When you hit play, these vids automatically roll behind your lyrics projection with sound & act just like any other backing track. Basically your own personal music video collection. You're welcome.

Apple Music

This option is literally just Apple Music vibes. You get access to shared audio tracks you can play using the Music app on your device. Linkin' tracks from Apple Music has some perks, amirite.

  • Tracks stored in iTunes in the Cloud or iTunes music match? Yep, Apple Music's got 'em.
  • Tracks with digital rights management can only play through Apple Music. Srsly, DRM is a whole thing.
  • Tracks aren't stored in your OnSong library, so your app & backups stay skinny. Totes efficient.
  • Tracks are shared between apps & can play from the Music app on your device. Neat, right?
  • Here's the kicker: OnSong supports background audio when rollin' music, but if OnSong crashes (unlikely, but y'know, it happens), the audio stops. With Apple Music? Song keeps bumpin' even if OnSong goes kaboom.

Spotify Library

Got a Spotify account? ZOMG, congrats! Pick this to link streamin' audio tracks to your chord charts instead of cloggin' your device with files. This opens the Spotify Library screen so you can pick from your saved tracks, albums, followed artists, or search Spotify's massive catalog. Fair warnin': Spotify needs the internet, so this option gets ghosted & disappears when you're offline. Rough.

*Some options aren't available on certain operating systems or maybe act weird dependin' on how the music service feels that day. For instance, Spotify doesn't vibe with Mac because the Spotify SDK said "nah." *
