Gettin' Started
In this here guide we be showin' ye th' core features o' OnSong needed t' start usin' OnSong right away, matey! Arrr, we be referencing various screens in our in-depth user manual, but be focusin' on gettin' ye th' know-how t' use OnSong effectively an' quickly, savvy?
Requirements
OnSong be runnin' on any iOS device (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) runnin' iOS 9 or later. While OnSong be runnin' on older devices, fer best results we be recommendin' an iPad Air or higher, ye scallywag!
Installin'
OnSong be only available fer purchase on th' App Store. Search fer "OnSong" in th' App Store or follow this direct link. Tap on th' buy button an' enter yer Apple ID an' password. This be purchasin' th' OnSong app directly from Apple an' begin th' download process, Arrr!
Note: OnSong be requirin' iOS 9 an' higher. If ye have already purchased OnSong ye can download an' install th' app on another device fer free as long as ye be usin' th' same Apple ID with which ye first purchased th' app.
Launch OnSong
When th' app be finished downloadin' an' installin', it be appearin' on yer home screen. Tap on this icon t' open OnSong. Once opened, ye be findin' a Registration Screen. Fill out yer information t' receive periodic emails on new OnSong releases. Ye be seein' th' Getting Started where ye can find information about OnSong. Close that screen by tappin' on th' Close button in th' upper right corner, matey!
Gettin' Oriented
Once ye open th' app, ye be immediately immersed in th' OnSong user interface, Blimey! Ye be seein' th' majority o' th' screen be filled with a demonstration song called Welcome to OnSong. Above that ye be findin' th' Menubar which be where ye be accessin' nearly all th' tools an' functions o' th' app. In th' lower right corner be th' Live Bar where ye can toggle certain live features like Autoscroll, Backing Tracks an' th' Metronome. Let's first start by addin' a new song t' yer song library, savvy?
Yer Song Library
Tap on th' Songs button in th' upper left corner o' th' screen t' open th' Songs Menu. This be where ye organize all yer songs an' sets, ye sea dog! Make sure th' All Songs tab be selected at th' bottom. Here ye be seein' all th' songs in yer OnSong library. Ye should have only th' Welcome To OnSong at this point, Arrr!
Importin' Songs
Tap on th' + button in th' lower right corner t' view th' Add Songs screen. Here ye can find many ways t' import files or subscriptions ye have into OnSong. OnSong be supportin' a variety o' file formats. We be goin' t' use Dropbox t' import files that we have wirelessly an' anywhere there be an Internet connection, matey! Ye be needin' t' setup a Dropbox account and authorize OnSong to access yer Dropbox. That be a one-time thing, savvy? After that, ye just browse and select files ye want t' import an' then tap on th' Import button. Th' files be downloadin' an' be added t' yer library. Ye be returned t' th' All Songs list an' yer imported songs be appearin' in th' Song Viewer.
If ye be wantin' t' import content from th' Internet, OnSong be providin' th' Add To OnSong Safari Extension which be lettin' ye import from popular chord chart an' lyrics websites, Avast! Some bands don't just post their chord charts, but also media like backin' tracks an' loops! Th' Add To OnSong Safari extension be importin' any type o' file format OnSong be supportin' too!
Viewin' Songs
Tap on th' song in this screen that ye want t' view an' it be loaded into th' Song Viewer. Ye can scroll this song up an' down t' view it. Be it lookin' like ye want? If not, ye can make changes t' it usin' th' Song Editor, ye scallywag!
Editin' Songs
Text-based chord charts be workin' best with OnSong, although ye can also import chord charts ye may have in Word, PDF, an' other supported formats. T' edit yer chord chart, tap on th' pencil icon in th' Menubar t' open th' Song Editor. In here ye can make changes t' th' song's lyrics an' chords, Arrr! Ye can learn more about th' OnSong an' ChordPro file formats.
When ye be all done makin' changes, tap on th' Done button t' save th' changes an' redraw th' screen with yer updates, matey!
Change Formattin'
Tap on th' sliders icon in Menubar t' open th' Style Preferences Menu. Here ye can change th' font, size o' different elements o' th' page, as well as highlight th' chords. Try t' make some changes an' see how it be affectin' th' chord chart ye be viewin', savvy?
If ye be performin' in a dimly lit room, ye may want t' switch OnSong into Low Light Mode.
Add a Sticky Note
Now let's be addin' a sticky note t' th' song, Blimey! T' do this, tap on th' sticky note icon in th' Menubar t' open th' Annotations Menu. Next, choose Sticky Note from th' menu t' place a sticky note on th' screen. Use th' Note Editor t' write a note. Tap on Done an' then tap an' drag th' note t' place it where ye like. Double tap on th' note t' open th' editor again. Tap on th' "A" icon t' open th' Appearance Menu where ye can change th' note color an' other parameters. Tap Done t' save yer changes, ye sea dog!
Create a Set List
Now that we have two songs, let's be creatin' a set, Arrr! Tap on th' Songs button in th' Menubar t' open th' Songs Menu. Tap on th' My Sets tab at th' bottom. Make sure that ye be on th' All Sets screen an' then tap on th' + button at th' bottom t' create a new set. Set th' date an' optional title an' then tap Done.
Tap on th' new set t' view th' set an' then tap on th' + button on th' bottom right t' pick some songs. Tap on both songs in yer library t' place a checkmark next t' them an' then tap Done. Now ye have a set with two songs, matey! Rearrange these songs by tappin' on th' Edit button in th' upper right corner t' enter editing mode where ye can drag an' drop songs where ye'd like. Tap Done t' save yer changes, savvy?
Backup Yer Library
As ye be creatin' yer library o' songs an' sets, yer OnSong library be becomin' more an' more valuable t' ye. Keep it safe by creatin' a backup. No matter what be happenin' t' yer device or OnSong library, ye can always restore from this backup file in th' event o' an emergency, Avast!
